GLOBE Observer and April's Million Acts of Science
For Citizen Science Month in April, SciStarter, an online citizen science hub, invited everyone, everywhere to join the One Million Acts of Science challenge. As SciStarter points out, and the GLOBE community knows, individual acts add up to an important collective impact that accelerates scientific research.
During April, volunteers using the GLOBE Observer app collected 13,476 clouds, 602 land cover, 345 mosquito habitat and 961 trees observations, all of which were added to the challenge stats. In addition, there were 2,481 new GLOBE Observer accounts created, which also counted toward the total. In all, the GLOBE community contributed 17,865 "acts of science" toward the goal of a million, a goal which was achieved by April 14, and far surpassed with an ultimate total of 3,026,611 acts of science during April. Thank you all of our GLOBE volunteer data collectors, during Citizen Science Month and all year round. As noted in the celebratory GIF below, science is better, together!
