Citizen Science Month 2026: 2.50 Million Acts of Science

For Citizen Science Month in April, SciStarter, an online citizen science hub, invited everyone, everywhere to join the 2.50 Million Acts of Science challenge. During the month, 4.7+ MILLION Acts of Science were reported thanks to more than 400,000 participants, far exceeding that goal, and GLOBE was part of that total. 

During April, volunteers using the GLOBE Observer app collected 10,391 clouds, 497 land cover, 69 mosquito habitat and 972 trees observations, all of which were added to the challenge stats. Another 1,297 observations were submitted through Data Entry. More than 1500 unique users contributed data, and in addition, there were 1,748 new GLOBE Observer accounts created, which also counted toward the total. In all, the GLOBE community contributed almost 15,000 "acts of science" toward the goal of 2.5 million, a goal which was achieved by April 22. The 4,731,622 total acts of science in 2026 not only surpassed the goal by almost double, but also exceeded the 3,026,611 acts of science collected during the similar challenge in April 2025.
