Science in Your Pocket: Documenting Change With GLOBE Observer
As you look up, remember that NASA is also looking down. Gathering data about our planet using a wide array of instruments, and we now know more about our planet than ever before. But it’s not just the observations made at NASA centers that help us gain a better understanding of our world. NASA relies on global citizens like you and your audiences to gather meaningful data that helps bring our view of Earth into sharper focus.
For 30 years students and teachers have contributed scientific observations to the GLOBE Program. In 2016, GLOBE released a mobile app, enabling anyone with a smartphone to contribute to NASA’s incredible library of Earth Science data. As one of the largest citizen-science projects in the world, GLOBE Observer provides easy to follow protocols and seamless mobile app integration to enable global citizens to be a part of understanding our planet better than ever before!
Join the Earth to Sky team on Friday, August 15th at 3pm ET for our next Science in Your Pocket webinar. Our special guest Heather Mortimer will present "Documenting Change with GLOBE Observer.” She will discuss how you can use GLOBE Observer to document change over time. She will share the app-based data collection tools, provide examples of how participants have tracked change, and share some tools to help you integrate GLOBE Observer into programming at your site!
Adding participatory science to your products and programming is an effective way to not only provide a “take-home” for your audience members, but getting “hands on” promotes a sense of ownership, community, and pride that encourages support like nothing else!
