Where is the Water? Challenge Wrap-Up

Thank you for participating in the “Where is the Water? A GLOBE Observer Data Challenge!” The numbers are in, and during May 2023, you submitted 227 land cover observations, which included more than 1,500 photos. You also submitted 297 mosquito habitat observations with 284 photos of mosquito habitats and 119 photos of mosquito larvae. As the data map shows, we received data from 38 countries, with the most observations coming from the United States.

From dry ground and puddles on pavement to lakes and oceans, this series of five photos shows some the many places water interfaces with land.

From ocean shorelines and scenic lakes to water-filled containers and muddy puddles, you showed us water in a variety of locations. Here are a few of the photos we received:

If you participated in the challenge, you can download an editable certificate from the challenge web page

The challenge may be over, but we encourage you to continue sending us your land cover observations of water and mosquito habitats including #water in the field notes. Water conditions change frequently, so ongoing data is valuable!
