NASA GLOBE Observer’s Weekly Roundup: 26 August - September 1 2018

A view of water with city scapes on both sides.

It's World Water Week. This and more in this week's edition of the roundup.

1. IMAGE OF THE WEEK: The above image shows clouds above Stockholm, Sweden's waterways. This week on GLOBE Observer social we are celebrating #WorldWaterWeek and will be featuring images of clouds near bodies of water as well as some science from the shore. Just search GLOBE Observer on either Facebook or Twitter to follow along, or simply click on the links below.

2. THE WATER CYCLE: Clouds, and the precipitation they provide, are an integral part of the Earth's water cycle. Watch the animation below to learn more.

3. NATIONAL BEACH DAY: This Thursday is also National Beach Day.  NASA's Earth Observatory had this to say about this picture:

"Ocean clouds meet the coastal desert in dramatic fashion on the coast of Peru, outlining the inland topography with precision. This image, acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite on May 28, 2014, illustrates the balance of nature’s extremes: dry versus wet and high versus low.

Formed in the moist ocean air, the clouds are closed-cell marine stratocumulus. Rounded and arranged in lines or waves, stratocumulus clouds form relatively low in the atmosphere." Keep reading in the link below.

4. WEEKLY VIDEO: Here are our favorite cloud observation submissions from the past two years from all around the world. But with a water slant -- enjoy.
