National Tree Week - How Tall is my Local Tree?
Project Description:
Are you ready to discover how tall your local tree is? Help us get some Irish trees on the NASA database during Ireland's National Tree Week. Tree height is the most widely used indicator of an ecosystem’s ability to grow trees. Observing tree height allows NASA scientists to to assess the amount of carbon that trees either take in from or release into the atmosphere. Your measurements count!
Project Impact:
This data request could help us better understand the distribution and height of Irish Trees. Ireland has approximately 12 percent tree cover, this is due to centuries of clearance for intensive farming and overexploitation for timber which have reduced Ireland's once extensive woodlands to the remnants we see today.
