GLOBE and Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence or AI is more than a buzz word: it can be a powerful tool and it is enhancing GLOBE for good. A recent paper summarized how AI is smoothing both how you submit GLOBE data and how scientists analyze GLOBE data. In particular, AI screens your photos the moment you submit them, and later, scientists are using AI image analysis to classify mosquito larvae or land cover in your photos.

Impacts of the GLOBE Observer App 2016-2025
The GLOBE Program recently celebrated its 30th Anniversary on Earth Day, 22 April 2025. Ten years ago, work began to develop the GLOBE Observer app, and it formally launched in 2016 with the first tool, Clouds. Read more about our accomplishments from the last nearly ten years.

2025 Aviation Weather Mission: Civil Air Patrol Cadets Help Scientists Study the Atmosphere with GLOBE Clouds
A project with the Civil Air Patrol this spring and summer will engage cadets and senior members in collecting GLOBE Clouds data (including contrails) along with other relevant weather conditions, as well as commercial aircraft information, for research related to aviation weather.

GLOBE is going to camp! GLOBE is pleased to offer a new resource guide that provides camp educators with activities and programming ideas built on GLOBE Observer. The new guide will help campers monitor the conditions of clouds, water, and plants, to study change over time.

GLOBE Eclipse and Civil Air Patrol: An Astronomical Collaboration
The GLOBE Program and the Civil Air Patrol collaborated to collect data during the total solar eclipse in April 2024, with CAP cadets and senior members participating from every U.S. state, two U.S. territories, and two Canadian provinces.

Results from the GLOBE Eclipse Challenge: Clouds and Our Solar-Powered Earth
Between 15 March and 15 April, volunteers from over 90 countries collected more than 23,000 GLOBE Clouds observations, generating 25,444 satellite matches. Volunteers in the United States submitted 13,900+ cloud observations, making it the most active country in the challenge. Saudi Arabia, Croatia, Israel, Mexico, and Thailand were the next most active countries.
